About us

The team behind the name has been at this since 2008.

A division of Webics: an Australian web and digital marketing agency that has spent eighteen years building for businesses whose year has a peak that must be caught and a quiet that must be survived.

Who we are

Who we are, without the varnish.

Whitsunday Web Design is a division of Webics, an Australian web design and digital marketing agency. The wider team has served more than 700 clients and built more than 500 websites: sites for tour operators, motels, tradies, retailers, manufacturers and the businesses in between.

We put this brand on the Whitsundays deliberately. It is one of the most seasonal, most visitor-driven economies in the country, and that is the kind of market this team has spent years building for on other stretches of Australian coast. That experience, not a local shopfront, is what we bring. So here is the honest trade: you do not get an office to walk into. You get a full team of designers, developers and marketers who answer the phone, put every quote and every decision in writing, and have done this hundreds of times.

A good web team is judged the same way a good skipper is: not by where they sleep, but by whether they get you there.

How it started

The name came from living here, not from a map.

Webics was founded in 2008 in the Shoalhaven, on the New South Wales South Coast. Whitsunday Web Design started later, and it started somewhere else. Ory Purhonen, who founded Webics, set this brand up while he was living in the Whitsundays. The region was not picked off a map. He lived here, and the name came from that.

He is based back in New South Wales now, and this page is not going to pretend otherwise. He is still up here regularly to see clients, and when he takes a holiday it is one of the first places he goes.

The photograph was taken out on the water with Queensland Yacht Charters, the bareboat charter fleet at Airlie Beach, when this team built their website.

Recognition

Marking your own homework is easy. This is the other kind.

Business awards, national industry accreditation and platform partnerships, collected over eighteen years. Every one of them was handed out by somebody with no reason to be generous.

How we operate

The standards we hold ourselves to.

Four things you can hold us to, and check us against, from the first phone call.

Fixed quotes, in writing

One number before we start. If the scope changes, the number changes in writing too, before the work does.

You own everything

Domain, website, accounts and files, registered and documented in your name. Leaving us should be easy, which is the best reason to stay.

Plain English

Reports and recommendations you can read without a glossary. If we cannot explain a line item, we do not send it.

We say no when it is the right answer

To work you do not need, to budgets that cannot win, and to jobs someone else would do better.

Where we work

The whole region is the patch, from the islands to the coalfields.

Airlie Beach and Cannonvale are where most of the enquiries start, but the patch runs from Mackay in the south to Bowen in the north and inland to Collinsville: tourism, trades, agriculture, resources and the businesses that supply all of them. The Queensland Government counts this as one region, Mackay Isaac Whitsunday, and so do we. Different businesses, same deal, a website and marketing planned around how your year actually trades.
